Treaty of Waitangi reactions

Today we started writing some reactions to events that might have happened in New Zealand just before the decision to sign the Treaty of Waitangi.  Our first event was a successful trip by a boatload of whalers, who then came ashore to spend their earnings.  Here are a couple of our ideas...

Connor (writing from the point of view of a Maori New Zealander):
I feel like they're intruding on my tribe's land and that the tribe down south could hear the racket they were making.  The children were kinda creeped too!

As the night goes on I grow tired of noise and order them out of town.  Of course they don't leave without a fight.  But as soon as I pull out the musket from behind my back they flee!

Tyler (writing from the point of view of a European child):

Those huge thugs brought in two Bottlenosed dolphins.  Poor things.  Some grown ups are pretty stoked.  Especially the store owners.  They must have made a lot of money.  Later on, they woke me up from in the pub down the street.  Mum told me they had drunk whiskey and had just got in a silly fight over nothing.  Everyone is pretty annoyed.  Well, time to see what tomorrow brings.

February 17

As part of our P.E. today we worked in teams to transport ourselves across the court using four chairs per team.  We had to get our team across one third of the court without touching the ground (only by standing on our chairs).  Both teams were doing really well and it was quite a close race until someone in Team A stumbled in the rush and ended up on the court.  That meant Team A had to start again.  They did and were working really well together but they were beaten by Team B who had seized the chance to slow down and make sure they made it safely across.  Well done to both Teams.  Photos of our day are on our class image gallery if you want to check us out.
